TopstepX copy trading with your ProjectX API key
TradeCopier.cloud talks to TopstepX over the ProjectX API. Give it the username you log in to TopstepX with and a ProjectX API key, and it shows every account on that user, lets you pick one to lead, and copies its trades to the rest of your TopstepX accounts, or to followers on Tradovate and Rithmic.
What you need
A ProjectX API key, plus the username you use for TopstepX. ProjectX sells API access on its own, apart from your Topstep account. Follow Topstep's and ProjectX's instructions to turn it on and create the key, and check the current price with them.
One key covers the whole user: connecting it lists every account on that TopstepX user, so you don't need a key per account.
Which TopstepX accounts can be added
TradeCopier.cloud can only add accounts the ProjectX API lets it trade. Unavailable accounts stay greyed out in the list with the reason next to them:
- ✓Live accounts: "Live accounts can't be managed through the ProjectX API".
- ✓Accounts with trading switched off: "Trading is disabled on this account".
- ✓Simulated accounts that are open for trading can be added as a master or a follower.
Check Topstep's rules first
Topstep decides which kinds of copy trading it allows and updates those rules now and then. Read what currently applies to your account types before you copy between accounts.
Settings for each follower
- ✓Sizing per follower: Equity-to-Equity, Contract Multiplier, Risk Multiplier, or Fixed Contracts (whole contracts from 1 to 1,000).
- ✓Copy SL and Copy TP, plus Additional TP/SL measured in ticks.
- ✓Symbol aliases, with presets that swap a full-size contract for its micro at ten times the contracts, for example YM to MYM or GC to MGC.
- ✓Reverse trades, a symbol whitelist or blacklist, and account protection.
Frequently asked questions
What is a ProjectX API key and where do I get it?
It's the key that lets an app such as TradeCopier.cloud trade your TopstepX accounts through the ProjectX API. You create it once API access is set up with ProjectX; Topstep's help centre explains the steps.
Why can't I add a live TopstepX account?
Live accounts can't be managed through the ProjectX API, so they show as unavailable in the list. Simulated accounts that are open for trading can be added.
Can I copy TopstepX to a Tradovate account?
Yes. TopstepX, Tradovate and Rithmic accounts can copy each other in either direction. Each follower uses its own login and its own sizing.
Can several TopstepX accounts follow one master?
Yes. One master can lead several followers. Read Topstep's latest rules on copying before you set it up.
