Futures to Forex Trade Copying

How to copy Tradovate futures trades to an MT5 account

If you trade futures on Tradovate and also hold a MetaTrader 5 account, the MT5 account can take each of your futures trades as a CFD position, without you entering it twice. You set an alias from the contract you trade to the CFD your MT5 broker offers, decide how many lots each contract becomes, and TradeCopier.cloud places the copies from the cloud.

The master is the Tradovate account you trade, linked by signing in to Tradovate in a popup. NinjaTrader brokerage, evaluation and funded accounts all work, and orders you place from NinjaTrader, TradingView or Tradovate's apps are all picked up.

Why put an MT5 account behind your Tradovate trading?

Some futures traders also keep an MT5 account, for example at a CFD prop firm, or at a broker that lists markets their futures account doesn't. When the plan is the same on both, entering each Russell or gold trade a second time on MT5 costs time and invites mistakes. With MT5 set up as a follower, an entry or exit on Tradovate opens or closes the matching CFD position on MT5 as well.

How it works

When the Tradovate master opens or closes a position, the copier sends the matching order to MT5. The master reports the dated contract it holds, so the MT5 follower needs an alias from that contract to your broker's CFD. To set it up:

  1. Sign in to Tradovate from the dashboard and add the account you trade as a master.
  2. Add your MT5 account as a follower with its login, password and broker server, and pick the Tradovate account as its master.
  3. Add an alias from the contract the master trades to your broker's CFD, written exactly as MT5 shows it, e.g. RTYZ6=US2000 or GCZ6=XAUUSD. For the Nasdaq, S&P 500 and Dow contracts, the alias builder suggests the current contract names.
  4. Choose the sizing. With Lot Multiplier, each contract on the master becomes 1 lot × the multiplier on MT5; Fixed Lot opens the same size every time.
  5. Place a one-contract test trade on Tradovate and check the lot size that opens on MT5.

Things to consider

Futures contracts expire. The alias names a dated contract, so when you roll to the next one (RTYZ6 to RTYH7, for example), update the alias as well, or the copier can only try to match the symbol on its own, and the copy may not open. One contract and one CFD lot rarely carry the same exposure: an RTY contract is worth $50 per index point, while a US2000 lot depends on your broker's contract size, so set the multiplier from those two figures and start small. CFD names vary between brokers (US2000, US2000.cash, RUSSELL2000 and so on), so copy the name exactly as MT5's Market Watch shows it. The CME and your broker don't keep the same hours, so a copy can be rejected while the CFD market is closed. Check both firms' rules before copying between them.

Frequently asked questions

Can Tradovate copy trades to MT5?

Yes. Make the Tradovate account the master and the MT5 account a follower. Once the follower has an alias for the contract, each futures trade is placed on MT5 as a CFD position sized in lots.

Does this work with a NinjaTrader brokerage account?

Yes. NinjaTrader brokerage accounts run on Tradovate, so you connect them with the Tradovate sign-in and use them as the master like any other Tradovate account.

What do I do when the contract rolls?

Edit the alias on the MT5 follower so it names the new contract. For example, GCZ6=XAUUSD becomes GCG7=XAUUSD when you move to February gold.

How is the MT5 lot size set?

By the follower's sizing mode. With Lot Multiplier, each master contract becomes 1 lot × the multiplier, so a multiplier of 0.2 turns a two-contract trade into 0.4 lots. Fixed Lot opens the same size on every copy.

Does MT5 need to stay open on my computer?

No. The MT5 account and the Tradovate login are both connected from TradeCopier.cloud's servers, so neither platform has to be open on your computer while copying runs.
